Brigitte Byart - Holistic Therapist

Body 'n' Sole at Chapletown Baths, Sheffield

I was first introduced to holistic therapies some 20 years ago when I discovered Reflexology, and ever since then I have had regular treatments. About ten years ago a friend mentioned Aromatherapy massages and after the first treatment I was hooked, again returning for regular treatments. Never did it occur to me that one day I would be practicing these therapies myself!

Eight years ago I enrolled on an evening course where the subjects covered were Aromatherapy, Herbalism and Crystal Healing. I immediately became fascinated by the beauty, colours and therapeutic properties of crystals and now use them daily to bring harmony and joy into my life.

Shortly afterwards I was introduced to, and started training in, Reiki, an ancient Japanese healing system which works with the body's energy centres or "chakras". Reiki works on an emotional, spiritual, mental and physical level and complements and boosts the effectiveness of conventional treatments. I am now a Reiki Master able to teach and attune others to this balancing therapy.

I then heard about a new course in Holistic Therapies being introduced at Sheffield College, and was thrilled when I was accepted as a student. The course covered Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage and Swedish Massage, which meant giving up my job as a PA/Administrator and concentrate on training full-time in these exciting therapies. Since then I have also trained in the Hopi Ear Candle treatment, which is a soothing and pain relieving treatment for problems in the ear and head areas, as well as in Hot Stone Therapy which uses hot basalt stones which penetrate deeply to help loosen and sooth tightened and congested muscles.

I also trained in Eastern Facial Massage, which combines highly effective techniques from both Indian and Japanese facial massages.
In addition I have become a practitioner of the "Emotional Freedom Technique", also known as "EFT", which is a simple acupressure technique for emotional and physical issues and works on the meridians, or energy pathways, within the body. It is sometimes referred to as "acupuncture without needles" and involves gentle "tapping" with fingertips on a sequence of meridian points on the face and hands. This is a fascinating therapy which I can also teach to clients during their treatments.
